Last Quarter Moon in Gemini and Cancer.

lastquarter_kellywalden_thewaldenmoon

The Last Quarter Moon phase is a time for reflection. When it entered into this phase last night it was in Gemini…but tonight it is in Cancer.

Gemini can offer you the drive to know it all. The twins…the two talking heads. One to listen and one to talk. This type of archetype thrives on communication and storytelling. If you feel yourself getting too antsy to go, go, goooo and know it all…settle for a moment and take a breath. Knowledge is great…but learning to calm that “go, go, go, to know it all” will benefit you in the long run. Learn as much as you can…but really savor each morsel of information you acquire…and be mindful of what you let others know you know. Humbleness is something we can use within the next few days. Thank yourself for knowing what you do know…and then cultivate a cancerian nature.

Cancer…the cancerian…the crab. The one with a hard shell but a soft inside. A delicate…yet succulent being. Underneath it all…underneath the hard outer shell is a morsel of goodness. Tender and sweet…the cancerian holds the feelings of deliciousness and protects it with its shell. As the Gemini gathers all the information, the crab stores it under its shell…and when the shell becomes too small from growth…the crab finds a new shell to expand even more. Cultivate the cancerian nature to gather and protect your knowledge and feelings…because just like all great mysteries, once they are solved and uncovered, you find a delicious and succulent being inside. Be wise with who you let solve your mystery.

Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Recipe for the Blueberry Full Moon

The Blueberry Full Moon is coming up this Saturday August 29th, 2015…and it happens to be a SUPER MOON! A Super moon typically happens 4-6 times per year and it’s when the moon is really close to the Earth. So this full moon should be a BIG ONE! Crossing my fingers that the night sky is clear!

In preparation for this months Blueberry full moon…here is a second recipe! Blueberry Frozen Yogurt inspired by THIS RECIPE!

Blueberry Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients

1 small package of fresh blueberries (washed and then frozen over night)

Yogurt (eye ball it for smooth blending…can be plain or flavored…we tried vanilla)

Honey or Agave Nectar (a squeeze or two for sweetness)

Lemon juice (a squeeze for balance)

Directions

Blend it! haha.

Side note….I roughly went along with the recipe linked above. This was my version. I added some splashes of milk to get the blueberries to blend easily…but it turns out that if you don’t eat it right away then the yogurt gets kind of foamy…I think the milk did that. Also, if you don’t like textured food (bits of fruit) then you probably won’t like this recipe because it has a lot of blueberry bits. My oldest daughter wasn’t a fan of all the blueberries. Next time I’ll plan on using less blueberries and more yogurt per my girls request…and NO milk. Just yogurt, blueberries, agave, and a splash of lemon!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

P.S. I have ONE more recipe from my mom that I’ll share ON the Blueberry Full Moon morning! (August 29th!!!)

First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius.

Jessie M. King, The Dove-Cot by the Sea, 1905. Watercolor on parchment. Glasgow, Scottland. Via University of Heidelberg

The moon entered Sagittarius last night during the first quarter moon phase. Sagittarius…the archer. The seeker of knowledge. The seeker of life. Steven Forrest best describes the Sagittarian’s archetype in The Inner Sky as “The Gypsy, The Student, and The Philosopher” in that hierarchical order.

So how can we use these archetypes during the first quarter moon phase?! By honing in on their instinctual nature as the perpetual student of life we can think about how far we have come and recheck back in with ourselves. The first quarter moon phase is a half way point, a check in point…a half moon. When working with the moon as your natural time clock to get things done…this is the moment when you check back in with your new moon goal. The Sagittarian’s archetype came at the right time!

It begins as the gypsy, who is constantly seeking experience. The wanderer. The one who doesn’t sit still as he or she is on the go reeling in life at present moment. The gypsy is the one that gathers the information through experience. Without the gypsy, we are left closed minded. Be open minded…live. This can represent your new moon goal…the thing you are currently experiencing.

Then once you’ve started to gather this information and these experiences you become the STUDENT. For every encounter, for every triumph, for every hiccup, you learn from it. Your mind expands and you try to do better. This is your half way point…your first quarter moon phase. This is when you sit back down, look at your new moon goal AGAIN…check back in with yourself and your progress and LEARN from it. Be the student. Look at the goal and your progress of what worked and what didn’t…and then KEEP MOVING…KEEP DOING.

When the full moon comes…become the PHILOSOPHER. Master your skill…master your goal. Put what the gypsy and student provided and make things happen. Keep in mind that the philosopher is also an open minded student of life. He takes everything in and doesn’t let a set of standards dictate his life. After all, life is ever changing…and what you may believe today may shape into something different later in life. The key to a Sagittarian is to continuously be the gypsy, the student, and the philosopher. A good habit to get into. Make room for expansion!

Remember in the beginning of this current moon cycle…you set a new moon goal. You are continuously making room for that goal to be incorporated into your life…you’ve already made a promise to yourself to EXPAND! You have already begun to act like a Sagittarius. Because after all we ALL have Sagittarius in us…your natal chart is proof.

As for me...well my new moon goal was to get better at my culinary skills and primping. Next post I’ll be sharing a Blueberry Cobbler recipe!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

P.S. I picked the painting above for this moon cycle to pair it with the archetypal Sagittarius. It’s a watercolor painting of wandering women by the sea with a dove-cot or dovecote. She’s surrounded by either doves or pigeons. To me it looked free spirited. A dovecote is an old medieval structure that noble people used to house pigeons and doves almost like a chicken coop. They kept pigeons and doves as a food source as well as used their poop for fertilizer. What I see in this painting is a free spirited gypsy woman with free flying doves of knowledge.

New Moon In Leo

The New Moon was in Leo just two days ago…and is still in the new moon phase but is waxing it’s way to full. My first week back from vacation has been a whirlwind and I’m just NOW sitting down…and it’s 10:30 at night…on a Sunday. After being on call…having a busy week at work…and then getting rear ended today…I think I’m ready for some down time…hurry up cocktail Monday, I might need you this time.

With the new moon in Leo, the lion…think about your new moon goal and let Leo help you get your inner thoughts and imagination to COME OUT and be seen. Leo can help you be expressive and give your thoughts and goals a meaning. Let the Leo lion coax your inner mind to shine OUTWARDLY! And while you are shining from the inside out…put on something fancy to go along with it! Look the part! Because…that Leo said so…and he is good at it, so he can show you how!

For me…my new moon goal is to dress up everyday…instead of rolling out of bed and into the car. I’m notorious for doing that and not brushing my hair. This cycle I want to work on my grooming. Haha. Not to say that I’m a slob…I just don’t take the extra time to primp.

I also want to work on my culinary skills and organizing my recipes. Just finished cleaning out the spice cabinet and pantry…and I want to make a list of what I have and then find some recipes to what I have on hand. Given that this months full moon is the BLUEBERRY moon, I hope to share some blueberry dishes…and I already have one lined up! My Grandma’s blueberry cobbler recipe she got from Imogen and Duke will be popping in sometime before the full moon. Maybe even some printable lists for list making too!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

Blue Moon in Aquarius

What does blue moon mean? I’ve tried to find the exact place of origination and there are a few floating around. But the one that made most sense to me was from the Farmers Almanac…

Blue moon may have come from the Old English term belewe meaning “the betrayer.” Typically there should be 12 full moons during the year…three per season, one per month. But every now and then a fourth full moon comes along and we get two full moons in one month…the second full moon of the month is called the blue moon. It makes sense that “blue” derived from “belewe” …because back in the day farmers would plant and harvest according to the moon phases (BIODYNAMICS, we will touch that subject one day) and the seasons. So they knew that in a month there would be one full moon…but every now and then there would appear a second one as the trickster moon or the betrayer moon…because it was rare and didn’t happen often. The saying “once in a blue moon” came from some article.

ANYWAYS! So there is that…now to the astrology of it all. The blue moon is in AQUARIUS...and dear Universe …you are one funny bastard.

Quick side note: It could not have been a better sign to sit in as I’ve started my great vacation! Currently in Atlanta (drove here last night)…going to be getting on a plane for Boston today…spend a few days in New England in Massachusetts and Maine…then flying to Iceland on Tuesday! I’ve been looking forward to this trip for a year now! (My little sister is getting married in Iceland to an Icelandic fella.

Ah…so Aquarius what are you offering?? FREEDOM! Freedom in a nutshell. Aquarius, the water bearer, is all about being true to oneself…I’m going to refer to her as a she for right now…but she is the true individual. She is the one who seeks freedom at any cost…even if that means she gets sideway looks from people. She’s the one that must pay attention to herself and what she seeks without letting culture and outside influences get in the way. She’s the one who listens to her heart…and answers without hesitation.

Activity for the two to three days of the FULL MOON AKA BLUE MOON AKA THUNDER MOON NUMBER TWO…

  • Letting go ritual: I have two for you!! Since during the summer we focus on water, and this is a thunder moon, and we have Aquarius…we are going to use the element of water in letting go.
  1. You’ll need a rock, a sharpie, and a body of water. For this ritual, you are going to set up in a spot where you can really let go…if you are into candles…light some candles…if you are into meditating…set up a serene spot to feel…when you are ready to let go of a feeling or thought, think about it and acknowledge that it’s there. Acknowledging it instead of repressing it is how you’ll eventually get over it once you learn how to change your thoughts about it. Write down what you want to let go of. For example, you want to let go of bad body self image thoughts…write down that you don’t want to think about yourself in a negative light ANYMORE! You’re letting go of that monster inside of your head that is tricking you into believing negative things about yourself. Forget that dweeb! Then throw that rock and that dweeby monster into the water and watch it sink to the bottom and leave it there. Because I promise you, you are beautiful no matter what that dweeb try’s to trick you with. Then start loving yourself…because no one truly pays attention to how you look…so if you have a messy hair day, eh, no matter! You are still cute! If you are trying to get over someone, write down that you don’t want to think about that person anymore. Thank them for being a part of your life and then throw that rock into that water and let it sit in the sea of memory and move on. They were in your life for a reason and now they are no longer in your life for a reason. It’s that simple. Please don’t ever let someone consume your thoughts if they no longer want to be in your life. There is a reason for them and you that there was a parting. You might not see it yet…but you will. It might still hurt, and you may find yourself rehashing feelings towards that person…but try not to. Because if you think about it, you are just thinking about the person you want them to be for you. You are giving them too much credit for not even being there. I’ve been there…I’ve done that…and that feeling sucks. You just have to remind yourself that you are making up these illusions in your head of what they were like and replaying what you should have done differently. Don’t do that anymore. Let them go. If they want to be in your life THEY WOULD BE. Plain and simple. Everyone and anyone that is in your life that should be there already is or wants to be there. So let that person go….and start taking care of you. People will come in and out of your life for a reason….even reasons you’ll never understand. So with that just take care of yourself…and the right people will show up!
  2. If you don’t have a body of water near…take a bath or shower and imagine those feelings or thoughts washing away down the drain. Set up a pretty bathroom…with candles and let it go…let those negative feelings or thoughts wash from your body, mind, and soul…imagine them going down the drain away from you. Then love yourself and thank yourself.

Anyways…I’ve got to get on a plane. But think about freedom right now! Go against the grain and let go of things holding you back!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly.

New Moon “Personal Manifesto” Supplies List and Prompt/Warm Up Questions

A NEW MOON is coming up on July 16th, 2015…

For the next Moon cycle we are going to focus on developing and writing a PERSONAL MANIFESTO…below you will find a description of a personal manifesto, along with, a supplies list and some prompt/warm up questions.

What is a PERSONAL MANIFESTO?

A personal manifesto is a written declaration of who you are, what you are all about, and who you want to be. It is a declaration to yourself and to the world…it is a promise to yourself to live the life YOU WANT.

In preparation for writing one I’ve come up with a list of supplies and some prompt/warm up questions to get you to start thinking. Start to answer the questions before the next new moon…don’t worry too much about grammar at this point….just answer the questions from your gut…as the moon is waning, try to cultivate a reflective state of mind. When the new moon gets here we are going to write our first draft of our personal manifesto. Keep in mind it will be a first draft…a personal manifesto is going to be rewritten, revised, and tweaked several times before you feel it just perfect.

Supplies List For your Personal Manifesto:

JOURNAL and a pen

or

Computer, if you prefer typing instead of writing.

And a candle if you want to set the mood!

Prompt/Warm Up Questions:

1. Imagine yourself and describe what you see. Really evaluate yourself…the good, the bad…the things you want to work on. Write this as long or as short as you want. Write it in paragraph format…but don’t get too caught up on grammar at this point. Just let it all out.

2. As you are still imagining yourself list the top 5 things that you absolutely LOVE about yourself. It can be one word…a sentence…or a couple of sentences for each one. If you have more than 5 or less than 5…that is okay too. 5 is a suggestion.

3. With the same frame of mind list 5 things you want to improve on in your life: The things you don’t like as much but want to change. Use the same format as question #2…but then add next to each item a suggestion on how to change it. Then think about how those things have positively shaped part of you.

4. List your top 5 heroes. They can be real people or fictitious characters. Beside each hero describe their personality and the things you like about them.

5. List the qualities that you have that are the same as your top 5 heroes. And then list the qualities you want to cultivate. The qualities can be from ANYTHING or ANYONE. List your ideas of good qualities in a person.

6. Describe the person you want to be RIGHT NOW. Right now in this moment…who do you want to be? Write it down.

7. Describe and write down how you want to be remembered. If you are a parent, a friend, a daughter, a son, a grandparent, a sister, a brother….how do you want your family and friends to describe you? Write it down.

8. List all the things you are waiting for. Are these things that you feel you need to have happen before you can “be happy”? If so, why? Write down what you think is holding you back. Now think about how that makes you feel. We are going to turn that around!

9. List any doubts you may have. Next to each describe why you have that doubt. Then next to that…write down what you could do about that doubt to make it go away.

10. Write the following quote by Pippi Longstocking TEN TIMES:

“I am the sea…and nobody owns me.”

———————————————————

Take the next 4 nights to answer these prompt/warm up questions…then on the 5th night, when the moon is new, we will begin writing the first draft of our personal manifesto!

Kelly

Last Quarter Moon in Aries | The Walden Moon

Last Quarter Moon | The Walden Moon by Kelly Walden

Last Quarter Moon in Aries Tonight…

Ah…the last stage of working with the four major moon phases. This is the time to really sit down and reflect. Really think about how far you’ve come…or how much more time it will take to accomplish the goal you set at a new moon. This is another (second) half moon and half point.

If you planned to complete your goal in one complete moon cycle…meaning…you set the goal at the new moon, checked in at the first quarter, accomplished by the full moon…then now is the time to be thankful that you did it. Be grateful. Say HELL YEAH!

If you are still working on your goal (for example you wanted to complete something in three full moons) then now is a time to check back in with yourself. Reflect on your progress and think about the next step. At the new moon your can set the next step during that phase to get it done.

Most importantly this is a time to reflect. Look inward. Be thankful for the things that have come into your life and what is now leaving your life. Think about what you want to accomplish…WRITE IT ALLLLL DOWN. Working with the moon is great when it is accompanied with a journal! You’ll start to see patterns and it’s also a stress reliever!

Now to the nitty gritty…the Moon is in Aries tonight…so you may feel a bit gung-ho and revved up! Aries is a VERY assertive and sometimes aggressive sign…The RAM…a fire sign…a VERY “I AM” sign…COURAGE comes to mind…listen to that intense intuition…act on it…DO IT! (With carefulness not to get too hasty and careless). If you feel the need to clean out the fridge DO IT…and then be thankful that you did…because after all YOU WANTED TO DO IT. Don’t take yourself for granted…and think about all the good things that have come into your life by PAYING ATTENTION to your own needs and wants…

If you are working through some problems…ACKNOWLEDGE them…ACCEPT them for what they are…and then LET THAT FEELING GO! Ask yourself…is this helping me? If it isn’t…and there is nothing that can be done…accept it for what it is AND THEN LET GO AND LET GOD…it may not make the feeling go over night…but it’s the first step in moving on…two good tips for letting something go and making a promise to yourself to move on…

ONE: Write it allllllll out on a piece of paper…every bit of it…DO NOT DOWNPLAY YOURSELF OR BLAME YOURSELF…shit happens. Learn from it. When you’ve written it all down and you are ready to let it go…BURN IT! (Safely) BURN IT…Especially TONIGHT! I mean….the Moon is in Aries tonight…and Aries is a FIRE SIGN. Burn it and imagine it disintegrating…you don’t need it…LET GO AND LET GOD.

TWO: Or…write that bad feeling or thought on a rock and THROW IT INTO A LAKE OR  THE SEA OR POND OR ANY BODY OF WATER….let it sink to the bottom…because you DON’T need it anymore…LET GO AND LET GOD.

To round off the night…if you are just happy…BE HAPPY…

Remember the Law of Attraction…if you think happy…you get happy…

AND for your personal pleasure…a GREAT Message from Shia LaBeouf!

Full Moon | Thunder Moon in Capricorn

Full Moon | The Walden Moon by Kelly Walden

Full Moon | Thunder Moon in Capricorn

Tonight is the first full moon for the month of July 2015. It sits in Capricorn…the Sea-Goat. If you are feeling a bit driven today it may be the Capricorn’s essence weaving into your life…as with the Capricorn zodiacal sign comes a sense of ambition…to get things done. Half mountain goat…half fish…the Sea-Goat tends to meet tasks head on. Given any circumstance the Sea-Goat will prevail…he can scale a mountain side and swim through the sea…with such determination the Sea-Goat can come across as emotionless…but that is not what he is about. He does love deeply. To the Sea-Goat his primary agenda is to find inner peace with himself. Once he finds that through solitary practices, deep self-reflection, and self-acceptance he learns how to approach the world…and has many skills to do that…after all he can be on land or in the sea. For Capricorn he doesn’t care too much of what others think of him, even though he may be in the spotlight and the roles he takes on may require an intense outwardly presence. For Capricorn the primary challenge is to see clearly and not get blinded by the glittery world and the glamour of what his roles “appear” to possess…ie power. For power, in a Capricorn’s world, is about self-respect…not worldly approval. Authenticity…integrity…and ambition rule this Earth zodiacal sign.

July is the month of the Thunder Moon…named after the many thunder storms that happen during this month…hence we are in the middle of the hurricane season. For this Full Moon we can explore a little about the Norse god Thor….the god of thunder. If you are interested in Norse mythology…this is the guy you’ll want to read about this full moon. STRENGTH comes to mind.

July is the month also known as the Buck Moon…named in response to this period of time when the bucks start growing their new antlers. For the furry and animal friends this may be a good time to pay homage to the deer.

FULL MOON…in some parts of the world the Full moon shines tonight July 1, 2015…in other parts of the world it shines tomorrow July 2, 2015. Within the course of these two days I’ll give you some more things to think about…ie worksheets to be uploaded tomorrow about how to work with the moon in your life.

For tonight start to think about this full moon’s influences with Capricorn…Thunder/Thor…Bucks.

Words to think about to incorporate into your life: Authenticity, Ambition, Integrity, Strength, Self-Respect, Self-Acceptance…and always love.
