Last Quarter Moon in Gemini and Cancer.

lastquarter_kellywalden_thewaldenmoon

The Last Quarter Moon phase is a time for reflection. When it entered into this phase last night it was in Gemini…but tonight it is in Cancer.

Gemini can offer you the drive to know it all. The twins…the two talking heads. One to listen and one to talk. This type of archetype thrives on communication and storytelling. If you feel yourself getting too antsy to go, go, goooo and know it all…settle for a moment and take a breath. Knowledge is great…but learning to calm that “go, go, go, to know it all” will benefit you in the long run. Learn as much as you can…but really savor each morsel of information you acquire…and be mindful of what you let others know you know. Humbleness is something we can use within the next few days. Thank yourself for knowing what you do know…and then cultivate a cancerian nature.

Cancer…the cancerian…the crab. The one with a hard shell but a soft inside. A delicate…yet succulent being. Underneath it all…underneath the hard outer shell is a morsel of goodness. Tender and sweet…the cancerian holds the feelings of deliciousness and protects it with its shell. As the Gemini gathers all the information, the crab stores it under its shell…and when the shell becomes too small from growth…the crab finds a new shell to expand even more. Cultivate the cancerian nature to gather and protect your knowledge and feelings…because just like all great mysteries, once they are solved and uncovered, you find a delicious and succulent being inside. Be wise with who you let solve your mystery.

Plant Sanctuary. Prepping for the Autumnal Equinox.

Autumn is nearing…my all time favorite season of the year. September 23rd, 2015 marks the Autumnal Equinox…when the light and dark of the day are equal to each other. I’m steadily making an indoor plant sanctuary to come home to during the fall and winter months.

Currently I’m working on some Autumnal Equinox activities to share…and one of them is how to make an indoor plant sanctuary…because you still need green in your daily life…I think! Above are some photographs of corners in my house that I’ve rearranged and added to just to get you inspired!!!

Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Recipe for the Blueberry Full Moon

The Blueberry Full Moon is coming up this Saturday August 29th, 2015…and it happens to be a SUPER MOON! A Super moon typically happens 4-6 times per year and it’s when the moon is really close to the Earth. So this full moon should be a BIG ONE! Crossing my fingers that the night sky is clear!

In preparation for this months Blueberry full moon…here is a second recipe! Blueberry Frozen Yogurt inspired by THIS RECIPE!

Blueberry Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients

1 small package of fresh blueberries (washed and then frozen over night)

Yogurt (eye ball it for smooth blending…can be plain or flavored…we tried vanilla)

Honey or Agave Nectar (a squeeze or two for sweetness)

Lemon juice (a squeeze for balance)

Directions

Blend it! haha.

Side note….I roughly went along with the recipe linked above. This was my version. I added some splashes of milk to get the blueberries to blend easily…but it turns out that if you don’t eat it right away then the yogurt gets kind of foamy…I think the milk did that. Also, if you don’t like textured food (bits of fruit) then you probably won’t like this recipe because it has a lot of blueberry bits. My oldest daughter wasn’t a fan of all the blueberries. Next time I’ll plan on using less blueberries and more yogurt per my girls request…and NO milk. Just yogurt, blueberries, agave, and a splash of lemon!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

P.S. I have ONE more recipe from my mom that I’ll share ON the Blueberry Full Moon morning! (August 29th!!!)

First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius.

Jessie M. King, The Dove-Cot by the Sea, 1905. Watercolor on parchment. Glasgow, Scottland. Via University of Heidelberg

The moon entered Sagittarius last night during the first quarter moon phase. Sagittarius…the archer. The seeker of knowledge. The seeker of life. Steven Forrest best describes the Sagittarian’s archetype in The Inner Sky as “The Gypsy, The Student, and The Philosopher” in that hierarchical order.

So how can we use these archetypes during the first quarter moon phase?! By honing in on their instinctual nature as the perpetual student of life we can think about how far we have come and recheck back in with ourselves. The first quarter moon phase is a half way point, a check in point…a half moon. When working with the moon as your natural time clock to get things done…this is the moment when you check back in with your new moon goal. The Sagittarian’s archetype came at the right time!

It begins as the gypsy, who is constantly seeking experience. The wanderer. The one who doesn’t sit still as he or she is on the go reeling in life at present moment. The gypsy is the one that gathers the information through experience. Without the gypsy, we are left closed minded. Be open minded…live. This can represent your new moon goal…the thing you are currently experiencing.

Then once you’ve started to gather this information and these experiences you become the STUDENT. For every encounter, for every triumph, for every hiccup, you learn from it. Your mind expands and you try to do better. This is your half way point…your first quarter moon phase. This is when you sit back down, look at your new moon goal AGAIN…check back in with yourself and your progress and LEARN from it. Be the student. Look at the goal and your progress of what worked and what didn’t…and then KEEP MOVING…KEEP DOING.

When the full moon comes…become the PHILOSOPHER. Master your skill…master your goal. Put what the gypsy and student provided and make things happen. Keep in mind that the philosopher is also an open minded student of life. He takes everything in and doesn’t let a set of standards dictate his life. After all, life is ever changing…and what you may believe today may shape into something different later in life. The key to a Sagittarian is to continuously be the gypsy, the student, and the philosopher. A good habit to get into. Make room for expansion!

Remember in the beginning of this current moon cycle…you set a new moon goal. You are continuously making room for that goal to be incorporated into your life…you’ve already made a promise to yourself to EXPAND! You have already begun to act like a Sagittarius. Because after all we ALL have Sagittarius in us…your natal chart is proof.

As for me...well my new moon goal was to get better at my culinary skills and primping. Next post I’ll be sharing a Blueberry Cobbler recipe!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

P.S. I picked the painting above for this moon cycle to pair it with the archetypal Sagittarius. It’s a watercolor painting of wandering women by the sea with a dove-cot or dovecote. She’s surrounded by either doves or pigeons. To me it looked free spirited. A dovecote is an old medieval structure that noble people used to house pigeons and doves almost like a chicken coop. They kept pigeons and doves as a food source as well as used their poop for fertilizer. What I see in this painting is a free spirited gypsy woman with free flying doves of knowledge.

Last Quarter Moon Phase…In Taurus

On a porch in Iceland… Last night me and Alex, Meghan’s friend, drove the crowd downtown to Reykjavik where we hung out at Kaldi all night until it closed. I was okay with driving because I had Sigurgisli (Bjarki’s brother) as a guide…plus I’m beginning to not like drinking at night (daytime drinking is way more fun) so I wasn’t opposed to being a DD. After Kaldi’s we went to a hot dog stand and a waffle hut and that’s when I noticed the moon in the sky…that pretty half moon last quarter lovely.

Today…is another story. Somehow I got wrangled into driving today WITHOUT a local…and let’s just say things did not go well! Haha. I went down roads the wrong way and the road signs made no sense…I was THAT tourist…the one that can’t drive. I was not happy with the situation. I gave up and Bjarki came to find us…and I let my brother drive the others to the Blue Lagoon…while forfeiting that experience to sulk in my room. Besides, I needed some time alone. I’m not great with big crowds. So I took a walk to some stores nearby and ate lunch with my older sister…got me some wine…and now here I am…writing…journaling…and drinking my wine. Daytime drinking…my kind of chill.

Now on with the moon...the moon is within its last quarter moon phase and it happens to be sitting in Taurus. The last quarter moon phase should be a time to reflect and be thankful for completing your new moon goal…or checking in with yourself as you move along with your goals. With Taurus in the mix, you may seek to encompass the Taurus’s nature of being the silent one. (Yes please!) I need a little peace and quite. You may think…Taurus, the bull??? Because we associate a bull with being very aggressive we forget that in actuality Taurus is an Earth sign…and really the bull is just an animal who hangs out on earth…minding his own business (unless you piss him off). Taurus is about being the silent one, the peaceful one, the one who sits in a field of grass and absorbs mother natures beauty. Think about that when you sit and reflect on your completion of your new moon goal, or checking in with yourself as you move along on your journey!

For my new moon goal...I wanted to write my first draft of my personal manifesto…and it goes something like this…

“I am me. I am the sea. And no one owns me. I want to listen to my heart and answer to life’s calls. I am free. I am a free thinker. I want love. I am love. I want to live my life by my own standards. I am creative and I welcome abundance into my life. I want to do yoga everyday and write everyday (or at least take a photograph). I want to blog everyday. But most importantly, I want to transcend into the woman I was meant to be.”

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly

Blue Moon in Aquarius

What does blue moon mean? I’ve tried to find the exact place of origination and there are a few floating around. But the one that made most sense to me was from the Farmers Almanac…

Blue moon may have come from the Old English term belewe meaning “the betrayer.” Typically there should be 12 full moons during the year…three per season, one per month. But every now and then a fourth full moon comes along and we get two full moons in one month…the second full moon of the month is called the blue moon. It makes sense that “blue” derived from “belewe” …because back in the day farmers would plant and harvest according to the moon phases (BIODYNAMICS, we will touch that subject one day) and the seasons. So they knew that in a month there would be one full moon…but every now and then there would appear a second one as the trickster moon or the betrayer moon…because it was rare and didn’t happen often. The saying “once in a blue moon” came from some article.

ANYWAYS! So there is that…now to the astrology of it all. The blue moon is in AQUARIUS...and dear Universe …you are one funny bastard.

Quick side note: It could not have been a better sign to sit in as I’ve started my great vacation! Currently in Atlanta (drove here last night)…going to be getting on a plane for Boston today…spend a few days in New England in Massachusetts and Maine…then flying to Iceland on Tuesday! I’ve been looking forward to this trip for a year now! (My little sister is getting married in Iceland to an Icelandic fella.

Ah…so Aquarius what are you offering?? FREEDOM! Freedom in a nutshell. Aquarius, the water bearer, is all about being true to oneself…I’m going to refer to her as a she for right now…but she is the true individual. She is the one who seeks freedom at any cost…even if that means she gets sideway looks from people. She’s the one that must pay attention to herself and what she seeks without letting culture and outside influences get in the way. She’s the one who listens to her heart…and answers without hesitation.

Activity for the two to three days of the FULL MOON AKA BLUE MOON AKA THUNDER MOON NUMBER TWO…

  • Letting go ritual: I have two for you!! Since during the summer we focus on water, and this is a thunder moon, and we have Aquarius…we are going to use the element of water in letting go.
  1. You’ll need a rock, a sharpie, and a body of water. For this ritual, you are going to set up in a spot where you can really let go…if you are into candles…light some candles…if you are into meditating…set up a serene spot to feel…when you are ready to let go of a feeling or thought, think about it and acknowledge that it’s there. Acknowledging it instead of repressing it is how you’ll eventually get over it once you learn how to change your thoughts about it. Write down what you want to let go of. For example, you want to let go of bad body self image thoughts…write down that you don’t want to think about yourself in a negative light ANYMORE! You’re letting go of that monster inside of your head that is tricking you into believing negative things about yourself. Forget that dweeb! Then throw that rock and that dweeby monster into the water and watch it sink to the bottom and leave it there. Because I promise you, you are beautiful no matter what that dweeb try’s to trick you with. Then start loving yourself…because no one truly pays attention to how you look…so if you have a messy hair day, eh, no matter! You are still cute! If you are trying to get over someone, write down that you don’t want to think about that person anymore. Thank them for being a part of your life and then throw that rock into that water and let it sit in the sea of memory and move on. They were in your life for a reason and now they are no longer in your life for a reason. It’s that simple. Please don’t ever let someone consume your thoughts if they no longer want to be in your life. There is a reason for them and you that there was a parting. You might not see it yet…but you will. It might still hurt, and you may find yourself rehashing feelings towards that person…but try not to. Because if you think about it, you are just thinking about the person you want them to be for you. You are giving them too much credit for not even being there. I’ve been there…I’ve done that…and that feeling sucks. You just have to remind yourself that you are making up these illusions in your head of what they were like and replaying what you should have done differently. Don’t do that anymore. Let them go. If they want to be in your life THEY WOULD BE. Plain and simple. Everyone and anyone that is in your life that should be there already is or wants to be there. So let that person go….and start taking care of you. People will come in and out of your life for a reason….even reasons you’ll never understand. So with that just take care of yourself…and the right people will show up!
  2. If you don’t have a body of water near…take a bath or shower and imagine those feelings or thoughts washing away down the drain. Set up a pretty bathroom…with candles and let it go…let those negative feelings or thoughts wash from your body, mind, and soul…imagine them going down the drain away from you. Then love yourself and thank yourself.

Anyways…I’ve got to get on a plane. But think about freedom right now! Go against the grain and let go of things holding you back!

Love & Moonlight,

Kelly.
